Pioneers not Settlers

I just remembered a moment from my recent speaking engagement in Wyoming. This one came out kinda off the cuff.

What are the people who came to Wyoming called?

Settler's broken wagon wheel
A broken wagon wheel where a settler said, “this’ll do.”

“Pioneers”

That’s right! And some of them were called “Settlers.” Those were the ones who when the covered wagon broke down, they were either too lazy or too stupid to fix it. They looked at it and settled, “this’ll do…”

Let’s be pioneers and not settlers.

Let’s go do what we’ve never done before regardless of the consequences.

Let’s not look at the broken wheel on the wagon and say… “this here is good enough for me.”
